  1. Pick 1. Google brings Gemini 4 Argon to Android Studio and the Android CLI

Why it matters: Agents that can build and fix Android apps by themselves are now an official part of Google's toolchain.

Google's newest model, Gemini 4 Argon, is now available to Android developers. You can use it in Android Studio Canary, in Google's Antigravity agent app, or in any terminal agent through a new Android command line plugin. Google says it reads Gradle and Kotlin build errors and fixes them on its own. It needs a paid Google plan.

  2. Pick 2. Kotlin Multiplatform plugin drops Swift editing support

Why it matters: Teams sharing Kotlin code with iOS should plan for Swift work to move back to Xcode.

JetBrains is removing Swift language features from its Kotlin Multiplatform plugin, starting with IntelliJ IDEA 2026.3 and Android Studio Rabbit 2. That means no Swift editing, highlighting or jumping between Swift and Kotlin code. Kotlin Multiplatform lets one codebase run on Android and iOS, so teams that edited Swift files inside Android Studio will need to use Xcode for that work.

  3. Pick 3. Late AOSP source drops push developers to disassemble libraries

Why it matters: If you build devices or debug the platform, open Android source is getting harder to rely on.

A widely discussed post on Hacker News says Google now publishes Android's open source code so late that developers disassemble compiled libraries to find and report bugs. AOSP is the open source base of Android. The thread drew about 500 points and 250 comments, many from people who build on Android below the app layer.

  4. Pick 4. Google's Android skills for coding agents top GitHub's Kotlin list

Why it matters: Adding Google's official skills is a cheap way to make your coding agent better at Android.

Google's android slash skills repository is the top trending Kotlin project on GitHub today, with about nine thousand stars. Skills are packaged instructions that coding agents load to do a task the right way. An official set for Android helps agents write current Android code instead of guessing from old examples.

  5. Pick 5. Haze 2.0 adds a glass effect and native Android blur

Why it matters: Frosted glass UI in Compose is now faster and can use Android's own blur underneath.

Chris Banes released Haze 2.0, a blur library for Compose Multiplatform. Compose is Android's UI toolkit. The new version adds a glass effect, a new effects API, speed improvements and experimental support for Android's built-in backdrop blur. In a second post he explains when Compose's new progressive blur is enough on its own.

Today’s Product & AI picks

Start the Product & AI read4 stories, ranked by what you’d regret missing · 2 min read
  1. Pick 1. Sphinx quizzes you on your agent's code before you ship

Why it matters: As agents write more code, tools that check human understanding are becoming a product category.

Sphinx is a free, open source hook for coding agents. Each time you push to production, it shows a short quiz to check that you understand the code your agent wrote. It was the top Show Hacker News post today, with about 240 points and many comments on whether developers still understand their own code.

  2. Pick 2. VoiceStudio offers a fully local alternative to ElevenLabs

Why it matters: Local voice models are now good enough to replace paid cloud voice tools for many tasks.

VoiceStudio is an open source voice suite that runs entirely on your own computer. It covers voice design, video dubbing, dictation, transcription and audiobook creation, which are usually separate paid cloud services. It gained about two thousand GitHub stars in one day and now has about 76 thousand.

  3. Pick 3. Orca gives developers one place to run a fleet of agents

Why it matters: Developers are moving from working with one agent to supervising many, and the tools are following.

Orca is an open source workspace for running many coding agents at once, such as Claude Code, using your own subscriptions. It works on desktop and mobile. It is near 100 thousand GitHub stars and was joined today by similar launches on Product Hunt, as the tools around agents become products of their own.

  4. Pick 4. shim-cli shows what your coding agent sends out

Why it matters: Seeing and filtering agent traffic is becoming a basic need for teams that care about secrets.

shim-cli is a command line tool that sits in front of your coding agent and shows what it sends to model providers. You can mask parts of that traffic, such as secrets or private code. It launched on Product Hunt today, alongside a Hacker News post arguing that every team should run its own model proxy.

Agent harnesses

Rising · 8 items from 3 sources

The programs that run coding agents keep growing into products of their own. Orca, opencode and ruflo climb GitHub, Harness by Autonomous and Craft Agents launched on Product Hunt, Anthropic and Cursor both publish official plugin directories, and the Unified Harness Protocol on YC Launches aims to standardize how harnesses are hosted.

Why now. Models have converged enough that the workflow, plugins and rules around the model decide results, so the harness is where products now compete.

Verifying agent work

Steady · 6 items from 5 sources

Builders are adding checks between agent output and production. Sphinx quizzes you on your agent's code before you ship, shim-cli shows and masks what a coding agent sends out, a front-page post argues for running your own LLM proxy, and Philipp Lackner argues against line-by-line review of AI code. On Lobsters, a heated thread pushed moderators to change how AI posts are tagged.

Why now. Agents now write most of the code in some teams, so understanding and auditing that code is the new bottleneck.

Show HN: Sphinx – A hook that quizzes you on your AI's code before shippingShow HN

Agent-ready Android

Rising · 6 items from 7 sources

Google keeps fitting Android tooling to coding agents. The Android blog brings Gemini 4 Argon to Android Studio and the Android CLI plugin, Google's android/skills repository tops GitHub's Kotlin list, Google's Developer Knowledge API gives agents official docs, and a new paper trains open mobile agents.

Why now. Agents can now build, read Gradle errors and fix them on their own, so official skills and docs decide how well they write Android code.

Agent memory layers

Steady · 5 items from 3 sources

Keeping context across agents and sessions is a product category. ai-memory gives coding CLIs long-term memory and handoff between vendors, Notion pitches itself as context you carry between agents, Gravity Notes shares one note list with your agents, Amazon's Bee records personal memory on a wearable, and the CarryOn paper studies compact task state for long agents.

Why now. People now switch between several agents in a day, and re-explaining work each time is the cost they want removed.

akitaonrails/ai-memoryGitHub Trending

On-device AI

Rising · 6 items from 3 sources

Voice and note tools keep moving onto your own hardware. VoiceStudio, a fully local voice suite, gained about two thousand stars in a day, and Product Hunt has local Whisper dictation, Openbroca dictation, on-device lecture notes and an Apple Intelligence trainer, while MiniCPM-V ships a 1 billion parameter vision model.

Why now. Small speech and vision models now run well on laptops and phones, and privacy plus no per-minute fees are the selling points.

Open-weight frontier models

Rising · 6 items from 3 sources

Large open-weight releases keep coming. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash is the top trending model on Hugging Face and reached the Hacker News front page, StepFun's Step 5 Preview offers 600 billion open weights for long-running agents, and NVIDIA's Nemotron 3.5 Super VL, MiniCPM-V 4.7 and Qwen3.8 27B also trend.

Why now. Mixture-of-experts designs keep active size small, so very large open models are cheap enough to serve for agent work.

Show HN: Sphinx – A hook that quizzes you on your AI's code before shipping

productShow HN243 pts · 86 comments

What
Sphinx is a free and open-source hook for coding agents that shows a quiz on the agent's code before you push to production.
For whom
Developers shipping agent-written code who want to be sure they understand it.
Problem
Agent-written code gets merged without anyone understanding it; today people rely on skimming diffs.
Why now
Agents now write large changes quickly, so human understanding, not typing, is the scarce step.
Wedge
Plugs into the agent workflow you already have as a hook.
Money
Open source, no model yet.
Like
Code review bots · Pre-commit hooks

LessonSometimes the product is friction on purpose: a small check at the risky moment.

debpalash/VoiceStudio

repoGitHub Trending★ 2,082 today

What
VoiceStudio is an open-source, fully local voice suite: voice design, dubbing, dictation, transcription and audiobook creation, pitched as an ElevenLabs alternative.
For whom
Creators and developers who need voice work without uploading audio or paying per character.
Problem
Cloud voice tools charge per use and need your audio on their servers.
Why now
Open speech models are now good enough to run locally for production voice work.
Wedge
One local app that bundles many voice tasks that are separate paid products elsewhere.
Money
Open source, no model yet.
Like
ElevenLabs · Fish Audio · Descript

LessonBundling many single-purpose paid tools into one free local app is a strong open-source wedge.

stablyai/orca

repoGitHub Trending★ 1,146 today

What
Orca is a workspace for running a fleet of coding agents, such as Claude Code, with your own subscriptions, on desktop and mobile.
For whom
Developers who run several coding agents at once and want one place to start and watch them.
Problem
Running many agents means juggling terminals, worktrees and logins; people cope with tmux and scripts.
Why now
Agents now run for long stretches unattended, so the job shifts from typing with one agent to supervising many.
Wedge
Bring your own subscription, so it adds no new model bill.
Money
Open-source repository; any paid tier is not stated.
Like
Harness by Autonomous · Conductor · Claude Squad · Craft Agents

LessonSit above the vendors and let users bring their own accounts; you become the neutral layer.

shim-cli

productProduct Hunt#4 on Product Hunt

What
shim-cli shows what your coding agent sends to model providers and lets you mask parts of it.
For whom
Developers and teams worried about secrets or private code leaving through agents.
Problem
Agents send files and context out with little visibility; teams cope with policies and trust.
Why now
Agents now read whole repositories and environment files on their own.
Wedge
A command-line shim that sits in front of the agent, with no change to how you work.
Money
Not stated.
Like
LLM proxies · Data loss prevention tools

LessonVisibility first, control second: showing users what happens often sells the masking.

Bringing our latest frontier model to Android Developers

articleAndroid Developers BlogAndroidHype flag

What
Google made Gemini 4 Argon available to Android developers through Antigravity, Android Studio Canary and an Android CLI plugin that connects any terminal agent to local Android tools and skills.
For whom
Android developers who want an agent to build, run and fix their app end to end rather than only complete code.
Problem
General coding agents stall on Gradle and Kotlin compiler errors and write dated Android code, so developers fix builds by hand.
Why now
Google says the model reads Gradle and compiler errors and iterates on fixes in a closed loop, which earlier models did poorly.
Wedge
The Android CLI plugin installs with one command into Antigravity or any terminal agent, so it reaches developers who do not use Android Studio's agent.
Money
Antigravity needs a Google AI Ultra subscription and Android Studio access uses the paid Gemini API tier, with introductory pricing until 30 November 2026.
Like
Claude Code · Codex CLI · Cursor · Gemini in Android Studio

The post cites no benchmark scores; its performance claims, such as 120 frames per second Compose animations, are qualitative.

LessonOwn the toolchain the agent calls, and you stay relevant whichever agent the developer picks.

android/skills

repoGitHub Trending, GitHub Trending · KotlinAndroid★ 375 today

What
Google's android/skills repository on GitHub, a set of Android skills for coding agents, now about 8.9 thousand stars and first on GitHub's Kotlin trending list.
For whom
Android developers who use Claude Code, Antigravity or other terminal agents on Android projects.
Problem
Agents write Android code from old training data and guess at build setup; teams cope by pasting their own instructions into every project.
Why now
Skills became a common format that several agents load, so one official set can reach all of them.
Wedge
Free, official and on GitHub, where agent users already look for skills.
Money
Open source, no model; it supports adoption of Android and Google's agent tools.
Like
Android CLI plugin · Philipp Lackner's Claude Code skills · anthropics/skills

akitaonrails/ai-memory

repoGitHub Trending★ 512 today

What
ai-memory adds long-term memory to coding-agent CLIs and helps hand work off between agents from different vendors.
For whom
Developers who switch between Claude Code, Codex and other agents.
Problem
Each agent starts from zero, so people repeat context or keep hand-written notes files.
Why now
Developers now use several agents in one day, and context lost between them is the cost.
Wedge
Cross-vendor handoff, which no single vendor has a reason to build.
Money
Open source, no model yet.
Like
Notion context for agents · Mem0 · CLAUDE.md files

Notion: Context for your agents

productProduct Hunt#22 on Product Hunt

What
Notion now pitches its workspace as context for AI agents, so you can switch agents without re-explaining your work.
For whom
Teams that already keep their work in Notion and use several AI agents.
Problem
Each new agent needs the same background on projects and decisions.
Why now
Agents can now read connected workspaces through standard protocols such as MCP.
Wedge
The documents teams already wrote become agent memory with no new work.
Money
Part of Notion's paid workspace plans.

What
An MCP server that lets Claude read your WhatsApp messages, running free on Cloudflare instead of your own server.
For whom
People who want their AI assistant on mobile to access WhatsApp without a business account.
Problem
Existing options needed WhatsApp Business or a server running an unofficial client.
Why now
MCP connectors and free serverless hosting make personal integrations cheap to run.
Wedge
Free hosting and no business account.
Money
Personal open-source project, no model.

What
ai-job-search is an open-source job search framework built on Claude Code that rates postings, tailors CVs, writes cover letters and preps interviews, all on your machine.
For whom
Job seekers comfortable running a coding agent locally.
Problem
Tailoring each application by hand is slow, and hosted tools hold your personal data.
Why now
Claude Code is now a general agent runtime, so non-coding workflows ship as repositories.
Wedge
Fork it and run it yourself; no account.
Money
Open source, no model.

What
DroidDesk turns an Android phone into a Linux desktop using Termux, Termux X11 and Proot, running apps such as VS Code, Firefox and LibreOffice.
For whom
Android users and developers who want a full desktop on their phone without root.
Problem
Setting up a Linux desktop on Android takes many manual Termux steps.
Why now
Phones now have enough memory and speed for desktop apps, and Android itself is adding a Linux terminal.
Wedge
A packaged setup on top of tools people already use.
Money
Open source, no model.

Haze 2.0

articleChris BanesAndroid

What
Haze 2.0, Chris Banes's blur library for Compose Multiplatform, adds a Glass effect, a new effects API, speed gains and experimental support for Android's native backdrop.
For whom
Compose developers building frosted-glass and blurred UI on Android and other platforms.
Problem
Blurring content behind a surface is hard and slow in Compose without a library.
Why now
Android now offers a native backdrop API, which Haze can use underneath.
Wedge
One API across Compose Multiplatform targets.
Money
Open source, no model.

Step 5 Preview

productProduct Hunt#19 on Product HuntHype flag

What
Step 5 Preview is an open-weight model with about 600 billion parameters, trained for long-running agents.
For whom
Teams that want a self-hosted model for agent work.
Problem
Long agent tasks are costly on closed models and weak on small open ones.
Why now
Mixture-of-experts designs make very large open models practical to serve.
Wedge
Open weights aimed at agents rather than chat.
Money
Open weights; revenue likely from a hosted API.
Like
DeepSeek V4.1 · Qwen3.8 · Muse Spark Open

PlaceCall by VOYGR – The phone is the last API

productYC Launches101 votes

What
PlaceCall by VOYGR finds businesses, calls them in parallel and returns answers, quotes and bookings through one API.
For whom
Developers building agents that need information only available by phone.
Problem
Many businesses only answer by phone, which agents cannot use.
Why now
Voice agents can now hold short phone calls well enough to get quotes and bookings.
Wedge
Calling many businesses at once, which a person cannot do.
Money
Paid API, likely per call.
Like
Google Duplex · Bland AI · Vapi

Launch HN: Agent37 (YC F26) – Low-cost agent sandboxes for running agents

discussionHN · AndroidAndroid162 pts · 131 comments

What
Agent37 sells sandboxes for running AI agents, priced under 10 percent of most sandbox providers.
For whom
Companies that run many agent tasks and pay for isolated machines.
Problem
Sandbox costs grow fast when agents run long tasks.
Why now
Agents now run long unattended jobs, so compute for sandboxes is a large line item.
Wedge
Price.
Money
Usage-based sandbox hosting.
Like
